Front foot defence is one of the first shots that you will
learn when you start playing cricket and rightly so because it is the
foundation of your batting. It is a fundamental shot and should be mastered to
unleash your potential as you progress. It also helps in playing other front
foot strokes because it is the primary position in front foot play. As a
batsman you want to score more runs but scoring off every ball is not possible
every now and then. You have to defend the good balls because they might get
you out and you won’t be scoring runs if you get out.

BATTING:SHOT SELECTION
Batting is about scoring as much as possible in cricket.
Every batsman want to score more runs but many
of them fail to do so because of many inabilities but the main mistake
is the faulty shot selection. Shot selection comes before the execution of the
shot and a false shot selection leads to poor shot execution so you might get
out. Good shot selection is a quality of a good batsman. Your technique may be
perfect but if your shot selection is poor you are most likely to fail 8 out of
10 times. To build an innings, a batsman needs a sound judgement to
work out which deliveries to defend, leave or score off. The shot selection
should be made depending upon the line, length and the speed of the delivery.
There are three main lines:
Off stump and outside off
BATTING : SQUARE CUT
Square cut is an attacking shot that is played off the
backfoot to a ball that is pitched short of a good length and is wide of off
stump. It is a very productive shot and the aim is to hit the ball square of
the wicket through the point and gully fielder. It is a useful shot because you
may not score or even get out to the deliveries that are short outside off
stump that cannot be driven. It is shot that gives you a lot of pleasure when executed
properly.
